D&B J-System Package

The D&B J-System Package is a complete, large-format line array system built around the J8 and J12 loudspeakers, both 3-way designs that pair two 12-inch low-frequency drivers with one horn-loaded 10-inch midrange driver and two 1.4-inch exit high-frequency compression drivers on a dedicated waveshaping device. In this configuration the system carries twelve J8s in the 80° dispersion pattern and eight J12s in the 120° pattern, so a designer can mix narrow-throw end-fire or out-fill columns with wider-coverage fills in the same rig. The J8 reaches a peak output of 145 dB while the J12 hits 143 dB, and both hold their constant-directivity horizontal control down to 250 Hz thanks to the dipolar arrangement of the neodymium low-frequency drivers, which is what lets vertical columns of up to twenty-four loudspeakers couple coherently in the vertical plane. Every cabinet is acoustically and mechanically compatible, so J8s and J12s mix freely in a single stack, and the whole package ships road-ready with carts, two J Bumpers, and a full complement of NL8 and NL4 connectors already wired on the rear of each loudspeaker.

The power side of the package is built to match. It includes four D12 amplifier rack packs containing twelve D12 channels in total, with three of those packs sharing common power and I/O rack panels and L21-30 distribution, so the system scales its amplification in clean, rack-mountable blocks. The D12 is a dual-channel, 3 RU amplifier delivering 2 x 1200 W into 4 ohms, and it runs at 96 kHz/27-bit with a 4-band parametric equalizer, up to 340 ms of per-channel delay, and d&b SenseDrive for precise low-frequency control when fitted with EP5 connectors and 5-wire cabling. Each channel also carries d&b System Check and Load monitoring, which continuously verifies driver and impedance status across a multi-element system, so an engineer can confirm the whole J array is healthy from a single point of view over the CAN-bus remote network.

On the practical side, the D&B J-System Package was engineered to be flown, moved, and relied on night after night in the world’s biggest venues. The J8 and J12 cabinets are built from marine plywood with an impact- and weather-protected PCP finish, front-protected by a rigid metal grille and fitted with four handles and parallel NL8/NLT4 connections on the rear, and each weighs just 60 kg (132 lb) to keep loading manageable.
