Meyer Sound LEO

The Meyer Sound LEO is the flagship of the company’s LEO family of linear line array loudspeakers, a self-powered system built to be the most powerful loudspeaker in its class. Meyer Sound set out to create the ultimate loudspeaker, a system with maximum power in a small footprint and virtually no distortion, and LEO is where that ambition started. The self-powered LEO-M cabinet puts a 3-channel amplifier with complementary MOSFET output stages inside the box, so there are no long cable runs, no external amplifier racks, and no signal degradation to manage. That architecture is what lets LEO hold linearity and headroom at output levels other arrays simply can’t reach, staying predictable across all frequencies at extraordinarily high sound pressure. The result is a loudspeaker that remains out of sight and true to the source, reproducing vocals, sax, drums, guitar, violin, and cello simultaneously and clearly, with nothing added and nothing coloring the others.

Technically, the LEO-M is engineered for long-throw applications. Its high-frequency section comprises two proprietary 4-inch compression drivers coupled to a constant-directivity horn through a patented REM manifold, which affords tight vertical coverage, while the low-frequency section carries two 15-inch long-excursion cone drivers capable of withstanding high continuous output. Precise phase and magnitude alignment between the low- and high-frequency drivers yields consistent, well-behaved system response across a 55 Hz to 16 kHz operating range, and the system achieves a linear peak SPL of 149.5 dB measured free-field. The internal amplifier delivers 9900 W of peak power with less than 0.02% distortion, and TruPower limiting protects the drivers while holding output high under both continuous and peak conditions. For low-frequency control, LEO pairs with the 1100-LFC, and the entire system is designed and driven through Meyer Sound’s MAPP system design tool and the Galileo GALAXY network platform.

On the practical side, LEO is built to be flown, moved, and relied on night after night. The LEO-M cabinet is constructed from premium multi-ply birch, finished in a slightly textured black coating with a powder-coated, hex-stamped steel grille, and measures 44.42 inches wide, 17.85 inches high, and 23.00 inches deep at 265 lb. Rigging is intuitive with captive GuideALinks that let you set splay angles while the cabinets rest in caster frames, and the MTG-LEO-M top grid flies arrays of up to 22 LEO-Ms at a 5:1 safety factor. The self-powered design and long-throw capability often reduce or even eliminate the need for delay systems, which is why LEO has anchored some of the largest stages in the world.
